Your overexposed image should contain details in the darker areas and your underexposed image should contain details in the brightest areas. Every one of these channels is a potential mask. You’ll see 18 monochromatic channels, ranging from Brights 1-6, Darks 1-6, Midtones 1-6. When shooting, it's important, much like with HDR, to capture different exposures of the same scene which should cover a long range of light. To see the Luminosity Masks that you’ve generated, go to your Channels palette, next to the Layers panel (if it is not showing go to: Window > Channels and it will appear). Having two images where one is exposed in-camera for the foreground and another that is exposed for the sky, using luminosity masks allows you to select the overexposed sky and mask in the image with the correctly exposed sky leaving you with a well-balanced and impactful image.
